POETRY
The Open Window
What do you keep in? What do you keep out?
A curtain hides
The world inside
Our study window.
I opened it
Almost by chance
In morning light.
I saw grass
New, rain splattered.
I smelt earth
Muddy, freshly turned.
I felt wind
Gentle, life-affirming.
I watched pigeons
Saunter, explore, soar.
Before my eyes
I saw morning
Descend, evolve, become.
When you shut windows,
What’s in stays in.
But what’s out, remains out.
This poem uses a picture-poetry format, where both the poem and the picture are created by the author. The picture is an extension and an integral part of the poem.
