What Exactly is Politics?

Some thoughts for July 4th Weekend

You are entering a portal of knowledge, critical thinking, history, and awareness of the world.

Some folks tell me they are not interested in politics. My response to this is that everything is political.

Politics (also called Political Theory) is a branch of social science that deals with the study of ideas, values, practices, and institutions in society.

Political theory seeks to understand and analyze the principles that underlie:

· political systems,

· governance,

· power,

· justice,

· rights,

· and authority.

Political theory often explores questions about:

· the nature of politics,

· the best forms of government,

· the rights and responsibilities of citizens,

· the distribution of power,

· and the ethical foundations of political action.
