When the Silence Said It All
Sometimes, unanswered words speak louder than we expect.
Friendship always seemed to be one of life’s most beautiful blessings. Those are places to find comfort and belonging when everything else feels too big. In my case, where that sense of connection easily wasn’t provided by a family, friends served as my anchor.
Not all friendships last a lifetime, however. Some just fade away. Others end without any warning, and that silence lasts much longer than it should.
When nobody’s surprised
Years ago, I reconnected with an old school friend — let’s call her Sarah. We weren’t just classmates; we talked ad infinitum about comedy, suspense, and that sense of pure loyalty you only find in childhood friends.
Of course, life had its other directions, and the gap grew between us because life went on, not because of hatred. But when we tuned in through social media, it felt like no time had passed.
When I planned to move to the city where Sarah now lives, excitement was bubbling. He warmly replied to my message that he would love to meet, and my heart swelled with the excitement of rekindling what we once shared.
But then… silence.
