“March Madness,” is more than just a basketball tournament. Yes, the tournament provides us with amazing games, storylines and memorable moments every year, but so much goes on in this month that make March a special month in sports.

Let’s start with a sport that is a month removed from its championship game, the NFL. NFL combine, free agency frenzy and all the talk about the lead up to the NFL draft. This early part of the NFL offseason rivals the excitement of the weeks leading up to the start of the season. In a matter of two weeks, the outlook for your favorite team’s season is shaped and fans go crazy on what free agents there team didn’t sign or overpaid for. So many storylines are created and excitement to see who your team is going to draft is honestly one of the most exciting times of the year.

While the NFL offseason is beginning, spring training is coming to a close and MLB opening day is quickly approaching. All fans alike have waiting all offseason to see how their teams free agent acquisitions, prospects and spring standouts will do in the regular season. The offseason provides all of us a positive feeling going into the year, in hopes of having a good year and playing meaningful games in September.

The NHL and NBA each are reaching their stretch runs with playoff pictures solidifying and teams tanking in hopes of acquiring a franchise changing player. It is always great in any sport when there are close postseason races in play with every game having meaningful implications along with it.

Then of course the Men’s and Women’s NCAA tournaments. Madness doesn’t do the tournaments justice with the reactions they get out of people and the hysteria created around brackets. Nonetheless, this is a time of year where all sports are intertwined together, and as a sports fan with all the, “madness,” going on throughout each sport is a sports fan’s heaven.
