For the last 2 years the men’s Lakers lacrosse has gone 6–9 and have been known throughout SUNY to be a “mediocre” Team or “Not good enough”

Already this year, the Lakers have 6 wins under their belts with still 5 games left of competition.

Anyone who has covered the Oswego lacrosse teams have known that there isn’t anything too exciting that happens with SUNYACS and championship time. Keeping a close eye on them this year, it seems though head coach Drew Bezek is starting to turn things around for his Lakers. Rallying behind him, might be one of the best freshman classes to come to Oswego in some time.

The Men’s Laker lacrosse team is a young developing team that only consists of a handful of seniors that will be leaving the program next year.

Early in the season the Men’s team have competed and beaten 4 teams that in the last 2 years have lost two. In that list of teams composes of St. John Fisher, Alfred and Hartwick College.

“We acquired a lot of young athletic talent that still has a lot to learn which is exciting considering they are already at a good level of play” senior Teddy Philips says enthusiastically while explaining what the future of the program holds.

Lead point scorers and current attack men Kyle Bacon and Caleb Alford on the Lakers are sophomores and bobby Emerson, who also contributes a solid amount of points, is a junior.

Oswego faces off against the Cortland red dragons on Wednesday, that will be the real test to where the Lakers stand this year and how they can handle good teams in the future.

The last time the Lakers were on this good of a streak was back in 1990 when the Oswego men went 9–3. In that year Oswego topped modern time nationally ranked University of Albany 13–6 on home soil. Who led the way for the Lakers was Junior attack men John Patrey from Yorktown, NY.

Since the 1990’s team Oswego has been known for going 6–8, 5–10 and much worse records during the seasons.

“I see a lot of potential in the athleticism we already have and what the recruiters are trying to bring in” explains freshman goal tender for the Lakers, Kevin O’Donnell. “For being DIII there’s a lot of good players on the market and we just need this season to show what Oswego is really made of and what a good program we can be” He adds.

From the 44 men roster, Oswego lacrosse is only losing 9 seniors for next season, 3 being starters there’s a lot of depth on the lacrosse team.

“The better we start doing, the more good players will start to get attracted to Oswego and will want to play here” Says Senior midfielder, Adam Burlew.

The 2018 new home uniforms

The men’s team was able to obtain the latest’s lacrosse helmets made by Cascade called the “S” the sleek design and comfortable fit makes you look better and play better. The Coach Bezek also got all new uniforms for the men’s team.

“Looking good is one thing… Showing off why you look good is a whole different topic.” Sophomore Midfielder Tim schof explains the fashion sense and the mentality it brings for the men.

In the start of 2022 the infamous Laker hall, home of all the athletic teams except the hockey teams, will be under reconstruction. Laker hall, which was opened in 1968 contains a rich history of past All- American teams and players.

The Oswego Lakers take on the Cortland Red Dragons, Wednesday for a classic Sunyac matchup.
