Bring back the Montreal Expos

The Expos haven’t existed for over a decade, but they still exist in many Canadian and American hearts.

Canada yearns for another baseball team, especially one back in the National League. The Toronto Blue Jays are alone in the Great White North, and need a rival in the opposite league.

Having two teams in Canada worked in the past, why not try it again?

It’s highly likely that the MLB won’t expand to 31 teams, which leaves the question — what team should move up north?

Hey there, Miami Marlins!

Baseball in Florida is dead. Yes, a ton of money was spent on Miami’s new stadium, but it already has a nightclub in it. All they need to do is convert the entire thing into a baseball themed nightclub, so the few remaining Marlins fans can reminisce on better days.

This also goes without question — Youppi was one of the best mascots in the entire league, and far superior to a big plastic fish. Sorry, Billy Marlin.

Imagine the National League East: Mets, Nationals, Expos, Phillies, Braves. Seeing the word “Expos” in the middle of that mess of division is just so…fitting.

It’s proven that many people are begging for a team to come back to Montreal. They’re guaranteed to have a solid starting fan base, and the move simply just makes sense for an international market.

Montreal’s main problem is where they would hypothetically play if this move were to come true. Olympic Stadium is in a state of decay, and is in an inconvenient location. The most sensible option is to build a stadium in downtown Montreal, where it would be easy to access and attractive to new and returning fans.

The Expos had the chance to become a championship team in 1994, but the strike prevented that from happening. They ended that season with a 74–40 record, the best in baseball. This couldn’t be a better format for a heartfelt baseball story. A team that had the chance to become world champions gets brought back to life to prove themselves again.

This dream, realistically, can come true. Long live the Montreal Expos.
