If Duke Doesn’t Beat UConn, No One Will

Geno Auriemma’s squad is the only undefeated team left in women’s college basketball. His Huskies have played like champs all year and they’ve beaten every challenger thrown their way. I honestly thought that teams like Stanford, Notre Dame, and Louisville could keep up with UConn. I also thought that defending National Champion South Carolina would give the huskies a run for the money, but all these teams came up short.

A couple teams that most thought would keep the game close got blown out. UConn dominated South Carolina on the road with an 83–58 demolition of the Gamecocks. Another surprising blowout was when the Huskies walloped Stanford with a 78–53 opening day massacre as well as a 97–73 win against #10 Maryland.

The dominance of Uconn in the first two rounds of the tournament is insane. They won their first round game against St. Francis, 140–52. In that game, the Huskies broke a number of NCAA records including a record 55 points in the first quarter and 94 points in the first half, both broke NCAA Tournament and overall NCAA records.

They followed that up with an easy 71–46 win against Quinnipiac. Obviously this game was not as visually impressive as their first round dominance, but an easy win nonetheless. What makes UConn so dangerous is their ability to spread the floor and share the ball. No Huskies had more than seventeen points per game, but all of their starters average over ten points per game.

Uconn will face Duke’s “Splash Sisters”, guards Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell.

Brown led the ACC with 19.7 points per game and was named to the First-team All-ACC team while Greenwell scored over fourteen points per game and was named a second team All-ACC selection. Even though Kia Nurse, the Huskies best defender will probably be defending Brown, Duke hasn’t played UConn yet.“As the old saying goes, So you’re telling me there’s a chance”. We don’t know how UConn will play against Duke and we don’t know how Duke will play against Uconn.

Honestly though, if UConn beats Duke, they will make theNCAA title game. Like I mentioned, UConn already blew out South Carolina about a month ago and if Buffalo somehow wins this matchup, they will be completely outmatched against a dominant Huskies team. In case you forgot, Geno Auriemma has led his teams to ten straight Final Fours and I don’t see how any team can stop that streak.

The Final Four semifinals will probably be very competitive, but considering they lost in this round last year, there’s no way this team will let this happen again. As for the championship game, I believe Mississippi State is the only team that can beat UConn. If they lose, no one can compete as no one else has experience beating UConn when they knocked them out last year on a buzzer beater.

If the Bulldogs win and face the Huskies in the title game, you can bet that UConn and Geno will be out for revenge. Auriemma rarely loses to the same team twice. On top of that, Auriemma has NEVER lost in the title game.He has won eleven titles, more than any college basketball coach. Most of these games have been in blowout wins wins have been blowouts and I don’t see this team failing him now.
