382 days ago, many were anticipating the release of the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast and Jeff Sessions had just recused himself from the Russia investigation earlier in the week. That was also the last time Colin Kaepernick held an NFL contract. Kaepernick has remained the face of the national anthem protests that sparked in 2016 and after opting out his contract in March of last year, he has yet to be signed. To me, there is no reason why he shouldn’t be on a roster.

Kaepernick has his flaws. He’s now 30 years old. He went 1–10 in his final year as a starter. His style of play does not fit every offensive scheme. However, it’s hard and foolish to ignore the 4–1 TD-INT ratio, the 90.7 QB rating, and the caliber of quarterbacks that have been signed to NFL contracts since Kaepernick became a free agent.

I do still believe Colin Kaepernick will once again be an NFL quarterback. There will be a team that decides to handle the wrath of angry NFL fans in both their fanbase and across the NFL and will sign him. Will Kaepernick ever start an NFL game again? I’m not sure. Again, he still has talent but he is 30 and hasn’t been on a successful team since 2013. Regardless of the protests, not many 30 year olds with losing records are getting starting NFL jobs. To me, a team with their franchise quarterback in place in a market that doesn’t attract a lot of media attention seems like the best spot for both Kaepernick and the NFL to finally move on from this awkward and unfair situation.
