After 3 upsets occurred in the Thursday night games, how will Friday’s Sweet 16 go? What occurred last night exemplifies just how special the NCAA tournament is. Sure my bracket is busted, sure I’ve lost bragging rights with friends in bracket challenges, I may have even lost a little money on some of these games. That’s not the point, regardless of how your bracket is looking we have all been treated to a special tournament with all of these upsets.

I don’t want to hear “experts” on ESPN say that these upsets are bad for the tournament. I do understand where they are coming from, yes, I know TV ratings would be higher with more big name schools in play. What we are seeing here is a different type of tournament, usually by this point most of the big upsets are out of the way and we have chalk for the most point in the Elite 8, with a couple of cinderellas still in play. This year, the entire left side of the bracket with the exception of Michigan is a cinderella story.

So with Friday’s games about to take play let’s go Syracuse, let’s go Clemson and let’s go West Virginia. Why not take all the Goliaths out before the Elite 8, cry about it, if we get lower division schools so be it. The result, I can guarantee will be awesome to watch take shape. What we see is basketball like we’ve never seen before.

With the potential of all these lower seeded teams advancing to the Elite 8 I can guarantee you will see heart, hustle and a love for the game never seen before. The tournament will feature a bunch of teams who were counted out after the first weekend and full of players who’re told they won’t make it to the NBA. What we will all see as sports fans, is why the NCAA tournament and its drama dwarfs the storylines of the NBA.
