Caeleb Dressel: 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

We may have just found ourselves the next great American swimmer.

Caeleb Dressel, a senior at the University of Florida, made headlines Thursday when competing in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Dressel, 21, competed in the 50-yard free event. His time of 17.63 seconds was not only an NCAA, U.S Open and Florida record, but it was also an American record. What’s even more remarkable is that Dressel also held the previous record time of 18.11 seconds before he went on to beat that.

Dressel wasn’t done making history just yet. While competing in the 100-yard butterfly, Dressel recorded a time of 42.80 seconds, which also set an American and NCAA record.

The Green Cove Springs native has had a historic collegiate career. He is a four-time NCAA Champion in the men’s 50 free and currently holds the top 10 fastest performances in that event.

I personally don’t know much about swimming, but Dressel seems like the real deal. With Michael Phelps historic career coming to a close, a void needs to be filled as the best American swimmer and Caeleb Dressel could very well be it.
