A story that isn’t getting nearly enough attention as it should, Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs are at odds and I don’t know how to handle this. This is a franchise who, just the other night clinched their 21st consecutive winning season has consistently won 50 games every season, (that streak will end this year), and is always atop the Western Conference standings. On top of all of this success they’ve bred quiet superstars have never had any controversies and have peacefully switched from superstar to superstar.

They seemed to be well on the same path back in 2014 for Kawhi Leonard’s coming out party and winning the 2014 finals MVP. A couple of seasons later Tim Duncan retired and Kawhi looked primed and ready to be the next quiet, yet dominant Spurs leader. However, that narrative completely changed in the third quarter in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals in Oracle. We all know what happened Zaza Pachulia failed to properly close out on a Leonard 3 point attempt, Kawhi went down missed the rest of the series and Golden State went on to sweep the Spurs.

Then we have this season, many different reports this season have talked about when Leonard would be returning and how he was progressing with his injury. As you can see now with only 10 games remaining Leonard is still out and now there are rumors that Kawhi wants out and that teammates aren’t completely buying that Leonard is incapable of playing.

What makes this situation even more unique is that the Patriots, the organization most commonly associated with San Antonio for their continuity and success, underwent the same situation during their recent playoff run and after their Super Bowl 52 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

I can’t say I’m too surprised with the New England drama but the San Antonio situation bewilders me. Once again it’s storylines like these that heighten the “madness” of March.
