I get it; March Madness is actually a big deal to most people. It is all I hear about, also with the NFL draft coming about and all the craziness with trades and teams trading up ridiculous players for getting better draft selections. Take for example the most recent trade from the NY Giants to send Jason Pierre-Paul to the buccaneers for two 2018 draft picks. A lot is happening in the sports world, but people forget what sport has just started that is always madness, Lacrosse.

College basketball is great and all but after UMBC lost I lost interest as well. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great time of the year; fortunately I look forward to the weekends even more for a nice Syracuse vs. #4 Duke Lacrosse game at 1:30 in the afternoon.

The unfortunate truth is that lacrosse is not nearly as big of a sport then college basketball. Yes, there are lacrosse games on television and you can stream them online whenever and wherever but it still leaves the question, why isn’t lacrosse as popular still? Why is Americas literal past time sport not a spot light sport such as the NBA, NHL or NFL?

There’s Major league lacrosse and National league lacrosse which is indoor/ box lacrosse, but the average attendance for a major lacrosse game is just under 4,000 people. While decent D1 basketball teams have an average of around 6–7,000 in attendance.

I can see some upward battle with how lacrosse is a pretty expensive sport to play in but it’s also one of the easiest to pick up and play at an early age. There’s many camps and programs all acrossed America to help “Grow the Game” but it’s just seems to be a slow moving process.

As this lacrosse season starts to really get rolling we’ll see how the attendance and popularity is while the game still slowly grows and hopefully someday gets as big as the NFL.
