Why is the NCAA the way they are?

A question that has always been on my mind while consuming sports media was, Why are networks allowed to talk about and showcase NCAA Vegas spreads for games, but when it came to professional leagues why were they not allowed to?

Doing some research into the area I have found an answer to my question. The number one reason that they are allowed to post spreads and talk about them, is to get people invested into the sports and get more eyeballs on games. To some this may sound crazy, but professional leagues get more views and people invested into the game then college sports. So for this reason some degenerate may be watching a MAC football game on a Wednesday to see the last money that they have ride on a last second extra point in a meaningless sport. They found that when they advertise the spread of a game that there are more viewers that tune in and stay tuned in over a long period. The fact that they get more eyeballs just by posting a spread is kinda crazy, but I guess if you are board and were not going to watch the game, but if you put money on it then you would be more invested.

Another thing that I found was the professional leagues were worried if more people were to see lines for games then some of the outcomes of certain games may change. There already is rumblings of certain times where games were rigged and the outcome altered due to gambling pressure. So if more eyeballs were on the game and pressure with other people is on the players it could cause a reason that the game may not be legitimate. As someone who is a casual gambler, I really do not think it makes a difference over the spread if it is televised, I think the people that are going to gamble are going to gamble if they see the spread on the TV or not.
