From Mark Strom to MarkstromTV
Interview with the creator of The Marksmen on Twitch
I recently brought MarkstromTV onto an episode of the mini-podcast to talk about how he got his name and the struggle of managing his work out routine while streaming and creating YouTube videos.
Before MarkstromTV, he was known to all as Taylor. He now streams on his Twitch channel and has a YouTube channel where he posts gaming videos. When he started on Twitch, he was originally just known as Mark Strom. He believed that the popularity of tacking on ‘TV’ to the end of usernames began to receive a negative connotation and was mostly utilized for people to get the username they wanted.
Personally, I think as long as the TV is not spammed in text chat, asking to check out the persons channel, I think it’s a smart move to attract some eyeballs with people in the actual game you are playing.
In the end, Mark Strom became MarkstromTV once he began to generate a decent following. The username was already taken before he could get to it so he messaged the original user asking if they would be winning to give it up. And with some luck, they happily handed it over! He did have to wait six months to change it due to system processing, but regardless, he got the name.
Now branded as MarkstromTV, Mark is now also the creator of Marksmen, a Twitch stream team consisting of himself, Deadlyslob, Peebro, MonsterDFace, Katie, and Kotton. They play games such as Session, Escape from Tarkov, Fortnite, and more.
Many challenges come with being a streamer and content creator. Arguably one of the most important ones is time management and making sure you have enough time for yourself. Markstrom talks about dealing with anxiety from scheduling time to go to the gym. He realized that this was largely caused by feeling like he didn’t have enough time to drive to and from the gym, then shower and get everything else that he needed to for the day. He now runs most mornings and does weight training in his garage five days a week.
