Enough is Enough

A moment of clarity. A swift kick in the butt. A come to Jesus meeting.
Names and idioms aside, there is a frozen moment in time where you are given a full stop on all of life. Usually from unexpected places, or just when you’re lost. Hopelessly lost.
It could be that it’s masked, cloaked in something that isn’t what it first appears. Like an evil thing that harms you or (worse) your loved ones. But then “aha!” and you realize there’s so much more going on and you gain that moment of clarity.
Or it could be delivered in the voice of a mother whose words have an uncanny ability to cut through and jar you from your inner child to your outer aging shell.
And maybe, if you are jarred enough, maybe all the noise dies down enough that you can hear a small voice from the same place you’ve heard it before.
Take this in, grab onto this. Good. Now, let’s get you out of here.
And then maybe, if you linger with that voice for a moment, you might feel that old familiar peace…that sense of ancient simple trust…and you see the God who really is right there with you, who proves (again) that he really does know what he’s doing.
Perhaps it is a good idea to just be surrounded by the quiet, simple, safe patch of ground he made just for you while you were busy not thinking about him at all. Rest there a bit. Just him and you.
And then as someone once told me…
“Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!”
Time to rise.
