Welcome to another edition of our Community Proxies Explained, where we take a look at community made DangPacks cards. We explore the card art created by the talented artists of The 596, as well as the meaning behind the various references found in their cards.

This week we are diving into the world of Anime and the beautiful cards designed and created by community member LizThatsMe.

Dan Yagami and For The Bit cards in gold rarity. The art for both cards is in the classic Japanese anime style and feature an evil-looking Dan and a close up of Dan’s face, respectively.

What is Referenced in These Cards?

Dan Yagami is a reference to the main protagonist from manga series Death Note named Light Yagami. This card also seems to draw inspiration from the DangDemon emote as well as some of Dan’s Youtube Thumbnails as artist LizThats Me points out on Discord. Here is a clip of Dan reacting to this artwork and thumbnail on stream: https://clips.twitch.tv/OnerousBoredDadPeteZarollTie-SyWD2IYDzTbwQ6xf

The “For The Bit” card references Dan’s sometimes uncanny ability to stay in character and troll chat by feigning ignorance or holding a ridiculous opinion on things just to get people riled up. I am sure reading this article he would say, “Chat, I don’t do that!” right now, further proving my point.

The full art version of Dan Yagami shows Dan drawn in the anime style in mostly black and white, with his trademark red t-shirt and demonic eyes shown in red.

What Details and Easter Eggs are Hidden in the Full Art for Dan Yagami?

Not all cards need to be filled with easter eggs and references. This card is simple and beautiful. However, someone with a trained eye for DangArt can clearly see a couple of references hidden here:

  • The red eyes are possibly a reflection from this Dan Yagami character staring straight at a large Team Red warchest.
  • The black void behind him represents where those Team Red coins are destined for.
The full art version of For the Bit features art in the anime style of Dan from the waist up, holding a message.

What Details and Easter Eggs are Hidden in the Full Art for For The Bit?

The Full Art for ‘For the Bit’ card is another stream and anime reference:

  • The character Dan Yagami is holding up a note. Light Yagami had a Death Note and this is Dan Yagami’s ‘Stall Note.’
  • I refer to this as the Stall Note because the text references the time when a random chatter told Dan during the Elden Ring boss Radahn that “there is no way to beat this fight with that little vig.” It was this comment that caused Dan to reroll his stats to have the minimum amount of vigor (health) for the rest of his Elden Ring run to prove he could beat it with no increases to his health pool. This extended the run by months.

We hope you enjoyed this dive into these great community proxies. Special thanks to LizThatsMe for creating these beautiful and unique cards. Have you created your own dang proxies, or appreciated proxies made by someone else? Let us know in the comments and maybe it will be featured in a future article!
