Community Proxies Explained — Pixel Knight Edition
Welcome to another edition of Community Proxies Explained, where we take a look at community made DangPacks cards. We explore the card art created by the talented artists of The 596, as well as the meaning behind the various references found in their cards.
In this edition we will be checking out a series of proxies created by long time 596 community member NathanBanSC, in which he makes beautiful pixel art proxy cards of three fan favorite Hollow Knight characters:
What Does ‘The Hornet’ Card Reference?
The Hornet card references one of the tougher bosses in Hollow Knight. You actually fight her twice in the game with the second time being significantly more difficult. With her long sword and her own version of the “Molecule” attack, she unsurprisingly drew a lot of comparisons to Malenia.
She will play a much bigger role in the story in the upcoming sequel called Hollow Knight: Silksong, though I won’t go into details here to avoid spoilers.
What Does The Map Maker Card Reference?
The Map Maker card references the recurring character known as Cornifer, or The Map Maker in Hollow Knight. This character is working on mapping the entirety of the Hallownest (where the game Hollow Knight takes place). He is located in every zone and can be found by following his scattered papers or following his humming. Once you buy all his maps he can be found in his shop sleeping.
What Does the Bapanada Card Reference?
The Bapanada card displays our dear Hollow Knight entering the shop of Iselda, the wife of the forementioned map maker named Cornifer. When you enter her shop she sighs and utters the word, “Bapanada.” Nobody knows what it means, but it is one of the most iconic lines from Hollow Knight. Iselda’s shop sells maps and mapping tools in her shop in Dirtmouth.
We hope you enjoyed this dive into these great community proxies. Special thanks to NathanBanSC for creating these awesome cards. Have you created your own dang proxies, or appreciated proxies made by someone else? Let us know in the comments and maybe it will be featured in a future article!
