In the second part of the airdrops series, we will discuss the next airdrop, The Goldvo.

The Goldvo airdrop card, featuring an illustration of a golden Volvo taking flight. The card features Dan Gheesling’s initials underneath the flavor text, and a blue border to indicate its rarity as an airdrop. This example is the 1st card minted out of 155 total.
MattHasFun minted the first of only 155 Goldvo airdrops.

The Goldvo

While Pace Picante I was the culmination of months of buildup, the second airdrop commemorated a golden Volvo and a man that believed he could drive it like no other and earn three gold stars in the process.

On January 14, 2022, Dan did a sponsored stream of Forza Horizon 5 for Thrustmaster, using a racing wheel set up to play the game. During the stream, Dan tried a variety of game modes and used a number of the many available vehicles, but things really got good when he selected a blue 1983 Volvo 242 Turbo Evolution. After taking it for a spin through fields and trees, Dan proceeded to attempt to earn three stars in a speed zone challenge on a course that included dirt roads, giant puddles, and dangerous curves. To earn three stars, Dan had to get from the beginning of the speed zone to the end with an average speed of 82 MPH, all while using a racing wheel he had little experience with.

After dozens of failures, Dan went back to the garage, and with a little front seating from chat, tinkered with the car in hopes it would give him the edge he needed to earn those three stars. With chat’s help, Dan found a suitable tune for the car, making it better in a number of ways. What really put the car over the top, however, was Dan’s decision to ditch the stock blue of the car and paint it a metallic gold. With his beloved car tuned and sporting a fresh coat of paint, Dan set off with renewed optimism. There were some very close calls, but before long, Dan and his Goldvo finally achieved greatness after 50 attempts:
