Know Your Lore — Legacy Airdrops (Part 3)
In the third part of the airdrops series, we will discuss the first airdrop of series 2, Malenia Queen Of Piece.
Malenia Queen of Piece
The release of the long-awaited Elden Ring brought the beloved Cerso Yeet back to the channel. In Elden Ring, Cerso was getting on in years, prompting Dan to state that Cerso had “low vig,” meaning he wouldn’t level his vigor stat much, keeping Cerso’s health bar relatively short. As if playing an already difficult game this way wasn’t hard enough, when Dan fought Starscourge Radahn, Dan took it a step further and dropped Cerso’s vigor stat back to its default level. Dan eventually beat Radahn playing this way, and against all odds, continued marching through the playthrough, defeating all bosses in his path. Cerso’s tiny health bar made a number of bosses difficult, some requiring hundreds of attempts to defeat, but the boss that brought Cerso Yeet’s improbable run to a screeching halt was Malenia Blade of Miquella.
Malenia was a two stage boss known for her speed and punishing attacks, which made her difficult even for Tarnished with reasonably sized health bars. For Cerso, this meant there was zero margin for error, requiring Dan to be dialed in and completely focused on the task at hand. For anyone that has watched Dan for any length of time, this would prove difficult, and he was punished greatly for it:

After 32 days, 100 hours, 2,999 deaths, and while wearing a blue shirt, Dan did eventually take town his nemesis:

The third airdrop released was special in a number of ways. With 4,108 viewers receiving the airdrop, it is easily the card with the highest circulation. It was also the first airdrop to feature the full art variant, given to a very small percentage of the overall number of eligible users. Full arts ushered in the era of airdrops having rarity, giving lucky full art recipients an exclusive card to be treasured, or even used as trade bait. For everyone else, the full arts were something to admire or maybe try to trade for. Finally, and arguably most importantly, the Malenia Queen of Piece was the culmination of an epic 3,000 attempt boss fight that will never be forgotten in the 596 community.
In part four of the series, we’ll take a look at the fourth released airdrop, and the second airdrop from Elden Ring, which commemorated Cerso finally sitting atop the throne.
