Limewire

“A trusty steed whenever you are in need.”

Series: 3

Artist: Danesykins

The image shows a DPOG grade 10 rainbow rarity Limewire with a gold stamp. The card is the fourth of five total Limewires in rainbow rarity.

What’s in the Picture?

The photo contains a depiction of the trusty steed Torrent. Torrent is unlocked fairly early in the game Elden Ring and is the primary steed companion through the game.

What’s the Quote mean?

Torrent acts as a summon in the game Elden Ring. You first acquire access to the horse by being given the Spectral Steed Whistle by Melina at the Gatefront Ruins. Using the whistle will cause the loyal steed to appear unless you are in an area where spawning is not allowed (primarily in dungeons).

The full art Limewire shows Torrent reared up on its hind legs next to a pile of limes. One lime has a pair of wired headphones sticking out of it, a callback to the Limewire music and file sharing app from the early 2000s. This particular full art Limewire has a ‘D’ logo in the bottom right corner, indicating that it has been sleeved.

What’s in the Full Art?

The presentation of the full art pans out to reveal the spectral nature of the horse, displaying some wisps left over from the summoning magic. It also includes a pair of headphones plugged in to a pile of limes, a reference to the name that Dan gave to the horse. Dan liked this card so much that he decided to utilize the linework without coloring to create the July 2023 Tier drop.

Tier Drop?

When subscribing to a streamer on Twitch.tv, you have several options for your subscription. The base subscription is referred to as a Tier 1 subscription. Tier 2 and Tier 3 subscriptions are available at a higher cost, but to offset that additional cost, Dan includes a “free” monthly card called a “Tier Drop.” T2 and T3 subscribers get a shiny pack of their own to rip that contains one of that month’s tierdrop cards. July 2023’s Tier Drop was an Inked variant of the Limewire card.

This image shows a Limewire Inked in rainbow rarity. The art has had all of its color stripped away, and only shows the art’s linework.

So Wait, Why “Limewire?”

Well, according to Elden Ring lore, the horse is named “Torrent.” Dan often renames characters in the games he plays to names that stick with him better. Limewire is a prime example of this kind of Danglish. While the horse’s name in game is “Torrent,” when Dan hears the word “torrent” his first thought is downloading songs in the early 2000’s. A very popular torrent downloading platform from that era was called “Limewire,” hence the Danglish translation of the horse’s name.
