What’s In the Picture?

An artist’s rendering of mod, pit boss, and all-around good guy Bretanadilewski. The image depicts Bret performing one of his mod functions, managing the DangCoin wagers.

What Does the Quote Mean?

Bret regularly has thousands, if not millions, of channel points under his control. With a single mouse click, those points head into the pockets of some betters and out of the pockets of others. Chat may not always agree with Bret’s determination of a bet, leading to some criticism of the pit boss.

Wait, There’s Gambling on the Stream?

Viewers can bet channel points on the outcome of the streamer’s performance, an activity called “gamba” in chat. Channel points, also called DangCoins on Dan’s channel, are only generated by watching the live stream at twitch.tv/DanGheesling. The coins have no value outside of the stream, so wagering them on whether or not Dan will beat a level is harmless fun. As Bret says, “It ain’t much but it’s honest gamba.”

Why Is That Text blue?

The blue text indicates that the card is authored by an artist of a DangCard. The artist ink is a distinction given to card artists, recognizing the work they put in to make DangCards great. This card was created at a time when card artist hushrooom was in the chat.

What’s Hidden in the Full Art?

In the full art, we can see Bret is paying out a bet to the person in the red shirt. Bret says his favorite part of the card is that “it’s a team red payout, not the most common outcome but always something I enjoy when it happens.”

What is “Team Red”?

Often during gamba, the wagers will be coded as “Red = Success” and “Blue = Failure.” Team Red is a way to describe the betters in chat who consistently wager that Dan will succeed in whatever game he is playing, also known as “Believers”. Team Red is opposed by Team Blue which is comprised of the people who frequently bet that Dan will fail the task. Team Blue betters are also known as “Doubters.”

Which Team Wins Bets More Frequently?

The Doubters win more regularly, but their payouts are relatively small. When Believers win, the payouts are usually larger but much less consistent, especially when Dan is playing an unfamiliar game.
