Will they be able to deliver value to users? We already do!

A little bit of [data] history

This week marks the 15th anniversary of a singular milestone in the Internet data creation and consumption: the iPhone. This smartphone wasn´t the first to be called such. It wasn´t the first with a camera or Internet connection. It simply was the gateway for a massive population of users who started a sharing trend of pictures, text and other kind of data driven contents.

Facebook was already around, but who can doubt that mobility catapulted its popularity and helped the creation of simpler and specific social media iterations. Instagram started as a photo sharing social network. Tinder would not have neither existed without this concept. And I´m just mentioning two of the largest.

Most recently, Bytedance´s TikTok is taking the cake. This network was initially intended for teenagers and amateur performers, to share 15s video short clips about any goofy stunt. It now amasses some 1.2 billion users worldwide, and some experts point out this is network could also be a control mechanism tool for governments.

The key is data possession. The more a network is consumed, the more of our data we feed them by signing the agreement and, also, they get their share by showing us Ads.

Zuckeberg´s Facebook announced that soon the social network would revamp the pay-per-view policy to give back more to the users, adjusting payments for the most watched and shared content. Snapchat plans something similar.

But Social Mining already had been working on that, keeping in mid that users deserve better. It´s a matter of attention.

Is Attention an Asset?

The main fight here is not for contents, but for attention, even though it´s the content “couple” — quality and theme- the vessel for attention. If we see audience attention as a resource, we can say it is the main reason for social media outlets -and content creators- to compete.

About 20 years ago, a person with internet access would only use the available tool at home, office or rental space, a personal computer, for limited information purposes: such as mail exchange, product and service information and News briefing. This panorama changed a lot in a shorter period than a generation. Now, smartphones allow more interaction and information type exchange. It is not only about the broadcasting possibilities; it is also about the data we are giving away on our behavior as users.

For exchange’s sake, the web use provides us as with information and we give our contents and personal data. Sometimes we pay cash to remain anonymous in some situations but that´s not totally because we still use some other internet features link to secondary data outlets and, in the end, we´ll always be traceable.

Social networks know that and there´s little we can do about it. Now, what happens with the time we devote to them? And how about what we feed them in our accounts, our posts and pics and videos and more?

It´s fair to get some back. After all, that´s our stuff and, as we said before: Social Mining had a solution long before today.

The DAOVERSE solution

Switching to the tech scenario, maybe the must trustable tool to keep track of things on the Internet is Blockchain. If well implemented, a blockchain based platform such as DAOVERSE allows a group of users to connect their social media activity to the Social Mining Tracker to calculate how engaging these posts are, according to attention, trending and follower´s count.

And it´s all on the DAOVERSE platform, right now, available to everyone. You just have to follow the instructions and start earning something for something you can easily do.

DAOVERSE offers also the possibility to get crypto allocations from projects supported by the Social Mining platform. That´s the ILO solution, and many users have backed it already. The best content, the most compelling and engaging get extra compensations, so real meritocracy is fully functional.

Maybe the most important thing is that the Social Mining concept is based in fairness, transparency and respect. We are social media users and consumers, we can´t escape from that, but think that these outlets can be used for better results for the majority.

Data use, corporate or personal, has a value that not everyone knows about and one of the 21st Century challenges is to make this available for the many.
