DAOstack is excited to be sponsoring ETHDenver, one of the largest Ethereum hackathons to date, and to be offering several bounties at the event. This article describes the available missions and prizes.

Introduction to DAOstack

DAOstack is an operational stack for DAOs, a complete toolkit for decentralized collaboration at scale. Built on an open, modular and upgradable architecture, the DAO stack includes the governance and economic framework needed for collectives to self-organize around shared goals and interests.

DAOstack is designed to allow for the simple configuration and self-governance of DAOs, as well as the seamless integration of collaborative Dapps with the stack’s back end.

The DAO stack includes:

  • Arc: a Solidity framework for DAO governance made of a set of adaptive, modular and upgradable smart-contract governance modules.
  • Arc.js: A javascript API that provides an intuitive interface for the Arc framework, enabling front-end developers to easily build collaborative Dapps without being familiar with Solidity or the blockchain.
  • Alchemy — The first collaborative Dapp utilizing Arc and Arc.js, and the native interface for DAOstack’s back end, allowing individuals to deploy, manage, and participate in DAOs. The MVP of Alchemy is a tool for decentralized budgeting and asset management.

Available bounties

DAOstack is offering bounties totaling $5,000, payable in ETH according to the ETH-USD conversion rate at the time of prize announcements on Sunday, Feb 18. The available bounties are:

1. Application development — $2,000. Think of any use case that could benefit from a structure for collective decision-making. Design an app for this use case. Build a UI and integrate the app with Arc and Arc.js. If necessary build new governance modules and schemes to serve the app.

Examples include:

  • Collective asset management. Imagine decentralized versions of venture funds, charities, real estate investment collectives, insurance networks, and so on. Any situation in which a collective needs to determine how to appropriate funds.
  • Crowd curation. This could include ranking of restaurants or other business venues (like a decentralized Yelp), ranking of content such as articles or videos (like a decentralized Reddit or social news feed), ranking of websites (like a socially curated version of Google search), or ranking of just about anything else useful.
  • Collaboration. This could be any decentralized effort to produce a product or service, such as a crowd-created film, a decentralized alternative to Wikipedia, or an open-source software technology.

Judging criteria include will include:

  • The degree to which the project capitalizes on the the modularity of the system
  • The quality of the UI
  • The degree to which the project answers a true need

2. Governance protocol — $2,000. Think of a new decentralized governance protocol. Define it completely on paper, and code a new governance module contract which is compatible with Arc, according to the VotingMachine interface. We recommend attending Matan Field’s ETHDenver workshop, “Decentralized Governance and the DAO Stack”, at 10:15 pm Friday on the WEI stage, in order to be fully oriented for this bounty.

Examples could include specific protocols within:

  • Holographic consensus, which Matan will discuss at his workshop
  • Liquid democracy or other varieties of delegation
  • Random decision set governance

Judging criteria will include:

  • The degree to which the protocol is scalable/efficient
  • The degree to which the protocol is resilient
  • The elegance of the smart contract code

3. Integration of DAOstack with a third-party service — $1,000.

Examples could include:

  • A component that rewards open-source contributors on Git
  • An integration with an identity-verification system
  • An infographic toolset for charting DAOs and the relationships between them
  • An integration with Zapier

Judging criteria:

  • Usefulness
  • Sleek integration.

Ongoing Bounties

In addition to the hackathon bounties, DAOstack offers an ongoing program with bounties between $500 and $5,000 related to security. For information, email hello@daostack.io with subject line “Hacker bounty info please”.
