OpenVPN meets DAppNode at EthCC!
DAppNode is continuously evolving to enhance the performance, security, and privacy delivered to its users. To celebrate the opening of this year’s EthCC, we are both proud and happy to announce the latest advancement of our product: DappNode 0.2.0.
VPNDAppNode has been in 0.1.x version since June of 2018, it is time to take the leap to 0.2.0 in which we migrate from l2tp/IPSec to OpenVPN looking for an even more convenient VPN protocol for DAppNode users, aka #nodlers.
The 3 dappnodes available at EthCC already have a pre-installed version of DAppNode 0.2.0 with OpenVPN, for the dappnode pioneers that get one of these very first units delivered by us.
Our beloved current DAppNode users will soon have an OpenVPN update available. We are currently working hard in ensuring the best transition/migration process, as OpenVPN breaks compatibility with the previous VPN protocol (L2TP/IpSec) and preparing the release to be widely available and replace all the DappNode 0.1.0 versions updating to 0.2.0.
Getting back to DAppNode pioneers, they will be the first users that get a dappnode from us, and the first users that get the OpenVPN upgraded version. We want to set in stone with the web pioneers.dappnode.eth. The lucky owners of these first dappnodes delivered can place on that website the name and photo they prefer, and it will stay there forever.

Starting with these three very special dappnodes, all the units that will be made available by us will have the new OpenVPN protocol, which introduces some major advantages for #nodlers:
- OpenVPN allows a much smoother and faster operation for every user disregardless of their client machine OS.
- OpenVPN can run on any port, bye bye to 500 and 4500 default, hello to getting around firewalls.
- OpenVPN completely relies on Open Source technologies and it is maintained, updated, and inspected by the community.
In summary, this major step forward improves user experience, privacy, security and overall performance of DAppNode, and we are so happy to announce it in EthCC Paris, and continue building out the infrastructure of decentralization.
