“Successful people don’t just float up to the top. Getting there takes focused action, personal discipline, and a lot of energy each day to make things happen,” said American author and entrepreneur Jack Canfield.

So don’t let old habits hold you back. Start building these simple but important habits for a happier and more productive life.

For about 3 years, I have built several habits that have changed my life. Starting from the mindset, lifestyle, and relationships. And in this article, I want to share some of the patterns I have built over the years that might also apply to your life.

Making Morning Ritual

Maybe you like running. Or, maybe you like to meditate or enjoy a healthy breakfast. Anything that makes you feel super energized. I always suggest starting your day with that habit. Establishing meaningful morning rituals helps you start your day on a positive and proactive note. Having a structured start to your day instead of rushing to make up for lost time also helps relieve stress, and mental fatigue and increases your productivity.

Exercise Every Day

I started to become aware of my health in 2019 when I gained weight and really wanted to lose it. Exercise really keeps me fitter and also makes me more productive every day. I always keep this habit consistent, because health is expensive and it is mandatory for all of us to always maintain our physical health and also our mental health. Even though at first it was very hard to do, yes I know because a habit can be formed if we do it regularly for at least 30–40 days in a row.

As well as improving your physical health, exercising regularly boosts your creativity and improves your cognitive skills. It’s also an effective way to build resilience and gain energy. And if you’re still not convinced, exercising also improves your mood by increasing the production of endorphins, which are hormones that act as natural antidepressants.

Follow The 80/20 Rule.

The Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule means that in any given situation, 20% of the task produces 80% of the result. So you can maximize your productivity by investing the most of your time and energy in the specific tasks that will have the greatest impact. After you complete the task, you can focus on other activities on your to-do list.

To do this habit can be said to be easy, easy, or difficult. But we can do this if we want to be more productive every day, of course, everyone wants their time not to be wasted. Before starting work, I always divide the tasks that will be carried out starting from the most important and urgent tasks, tasks that are important but not urgent, and tasks that are not important and not urgent.

By grouping tasks like before, it is guaranteed that you can work in a focused and structured manner. This is the Pareto principle, grouping several tasks according to the impact that will be generated after completing them.

Read a Book

Reading books is a great way to gain knowledge and stimulate creativity. I usually read books in the morning after exercising and in the afternoon. That’s because I feel more suitable in terms of time to read a book.

Immersive reading also improves focus and has a calming effect similar to meditation. Besides that, reading before going to bed can help you sleep better. Non-fiction books, in particular, are excellent tools for broadening horizons, developing new ideas, and finding motivation. On top of that, they also offer actionable advice on how to tackle all kinds of challenging situations through real-life examples.

Do a Social Media Detox

The digital world has taken over almost every aspect of our lives. The average person has five social media accounts and spends at least 1 hour and 40 minutes each day checking social media. Research shows that the more time you spend on social media sites, the more likely you are to experience depression. Take time to cut back on social media to reduce stress and mental turmoil. Turn off your cell phones and laptops for a few hours each day to boost your mood and reconnect with the world around you.

So, now is the right time to create better habits that can make you better by at least 1% every day.
