Instead of silence, we decided to help!
Brains Colliding
It was a cold winter afternoon… We were assigned a project, a project that should have an impact on the world and to our community, and all within the Sustainable Development Goals pinned by the United Nations. That was the first time we had to limit our goals as the Ghost Writers team. That was the first time our brains collided!
During our 5th semester at Panteion University we were asked to create teams for the lesson in order to work together in group projects. So, that was the creation of the Ghost Writers teams, a group that we didn’t think a lot about in the beginning and we were just trying to pass the assignments of “Social Issues, Social Innovation, and Corporate Responsibility”.
That lesson was kind of different. We first had to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals, an ambitious project by the United Nations in order to change the world by the year of 2030, using a set of goals which they have to be completed for the SDG program to be successful. At first, our professor Ms. Betty Tsakarestou assigned each student as a unit to research an issue that they deemed important and to place it under one or several Goals. This task was an easy one, which allowed each personality to come forward.
Then our professor dropped a bombshell. We should now choose as a team an innovative cause to have as a theme for the rest of the semester.
Narrating how our team fought about whose issue was more important would be an easy lie to pull off. After all, 5 different people with 5 different opinions, which everyone thought of their own as the most important, could easily start a fight over such a thing. I’m sorry that I can give you this story.
The truth is that we agreed pretty quickly. Each one presented their own issue and under what Goals did it fall under. Drawing from the reality at the time (it was during the time of George Floyd’s death), from our own personal experience with society, and from our personal interests we settled in on an issue we thought we could help to shine light upon.
So, allow us to introduce ourselves; We are the Ghost Writers, and our goal is to end misrepresentation of LGBTQ+ people and POC on popular media!
