CFC #3: From interviewing to prototyping
Care For Our Cities: We have always been greedy, it’s time to care for our cities. CFC, initiated by three students through the #DareToChallenge project, aims to promote sustainable, 360 recycling programs and information relevant to sustainable cities, starting with Athens. #CareForOurCities
First, the target group we decided to address is consisted mostly of students from 18 to 25 years old in Greece. This decision resulted from the fact that we strongly believe that young people, especially on the age of 18–25, are more environmentally and socially active and open minded. Moreover, they are the most active consumers but also, they consist a target group which is more prone to change.
Consequently, we got in touch with them, via a questionnaire, so as to get to know their habits about recycling. We conducted our research both from an online survey and face-to-face (they completed the questionnaire in writing or online).
The results gave us useful and very important information such as:
1) The 36% of the respondents don’t recycle, because they think that recycling doesn’t affect them directly,
2)The big percentage of 88% isn’t familiarized with different kinds of recycling,
3)The 68% believe that can improve their recycling habits and
4)Most of them (43%) want to see more interest from the government, so as to achieve the foregoing (number 3).
Furthermore, from the given responses to our questionnaire, we decided to construct a social media campaign (Facebook, Instagram) regarding recycling issues in order to attract more people and make them part of our effort, penetrating their daily lives more easily through networking platforms. Our goal is to gain more supporters, so as to improve our recycling system and make recycling our favourite daily habit.
