Our team, Ghost Writers, is a six member one. We are all colleagues studying at Panteion University, but most importantly, good friends. Our main goal is giving a voice to underrepresented groups in media, such as POC and LGBTQA+ communities.

For the final assignment, we had so many ideas, we were literally drowning in them. So we decided to put our thoughts in order.

Welcome to the presentation of our thoughts about our final prototype.

At first, we thought that we should present anything we had done until that time. Present who we are, our topic, the reason we chose it, our future goals and how we plan to raise more awareness on our chosen issue.

After many researches we’ve done for previous projects, we’ve noticed that POC and LGBTQA+ communities aren’t as represented as they should be in the media. Movies and series don’t include actors from those communities, resulting into real life people not seeing their stories represented on screen.

Even though years and years have passed, and societies have supposedly become more open-minded than they once were. However, this seems to only remain in words, since there’s no significant change in the director’s choices of actors. White and straight people remain on top positions of preference, while POC and LGBTQA+ people follow behind in very little rate, which hardly grows as the years are passing.

The reasons we decided on this issue are many. We all agreed to the most important ones. Starting, the representation of those communities in media leads to education, which leads to acceptance of every race and identity. It’s also important for little kids to have role models and look up to heroes who look like them. The lack of representation can cause insecurities that can lead to mental health problems. Moreover, with the right representation, people feel like their experiences matter and that their stories are worthy of being told. Last but not least, different people from different races can feel like they’re coexisting with everyone.

Our goals for the future are to educate people, have more POC and LGBTQA+ people participate in newsrooms and also give them the opportunity to voice their opinions and amplify their voices. The ideal goal of ours is to completely break the stereotypes, which still needs a lot of work in order to be done.

Our ways of achieving those goals are:

  • Ghost Writers (Website, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Ghost Talks (Podcasts)
  • Ghost Education (Seminars)
  • Ghost Recommendations (Books, Movies, Series)
  • Ghost Newsroom
  • Ghost Conference.
