Dare Festival 2016 — Stage #2: Design!
Design aligns humans and technology, it aligns business and engineering, it aligns digital and physical, and it aligns business needs and user needs. Design is no longer an afterthought!
Design transforms the way things are to the way things ought to be. It forces us to rethink how we experience life and how we perceive value. Design is a disruptor but design itself is also being disrupted.
Designers’ responsibilities are expanding at a dizzying pace. The barriers between physical and digital are fading. From connected devices, wearables, machines, voice and text assistants, to the Internet of Things and smart spaces. Designers are constantly required to completely rethink interfaces.
Design is no longer an afterthought but has become an essential part of the product, and it may even be the most important part of a product’s value.
The convergence of the physical and digital has caused for companies like Airbnb, Uber, Nest, Samsung and many others to lead by design, building cross-disciplinary teams to solve real human problems and create products that customers love.
Design products for how the world should work instead of optimizing for how the world does work.
So what exactly are these design skills? How do you create a business culture that enables organizations to ask the right questions? These and many other design challenges and opportunities will be discussed at our upcoming Dare Festival.
Today, I’m excited to announce our 2nd of 12 new stages: Design!
Dare Festival offers a dazzling look at the intersection of Human Behavior and New Technology. A 3-day exploration for those who want to grow and stay competitive in an increasingly digitized world. Change your tomorrow!
Dare Festival 2016
August 24–26 / Antwerp BE
Design! explores the roles, responsibilities and opportunities of design to solve real human problems in an ever increasingly digitized world.
A practical and inspiring program for those that value design not as a feature but as an intrinsic to the product or service you are trying to sell.
Design! is defined by the following 4 tracks.
From prototyping for connected devices, voice design and natural dialogue models for human-computer interaction, designing secure experiences, and UX for the Internet of Things, user research, information architecture, conversion and performance, and platform design, take your skills to the next level with actionable tools and methods.
From design leadership, scaling up your design process and creative output, improving the creative dialogue between stakeholders, to building small teams with big impact. Learn how to enable design to play a crucial role in your organization’s success.
Connected devices, wearables, machines, voice and text assistants, to the Internet of Things and smart spaces, requires designers to completely rethink interfaces. This represents a bigger change for designers than iterations from print to web to mobile. Learn everything you need to know about your new role and responsibilities.
Design transforms the way things are to the way they ought to be. Learn how to use design to solve usability and communication issues in the social space at scale and have a positive social impact in such areas like education, healthcare, sustainability and government.
Design! is a standalone conference within Dare Festival. Design! has its own problem space, tracks, speakers, and learning experience. While Dare Festival is still far away, here are some ideas.
The day is filled with hands-on workshop, demos, lightening talks and labs. Designed for people who want to get their hands dirty and make sure they get the skills and confidence to get started the next day.
The evening is intended for a wider audience, enjoy world-class speaker, learn where we are today and what lies ahead. Designed for those who want to get inspired.
Dare Festival combines the best products and services from each stage into one big exhibition hall open to the public. Show the world what lies ahead.
The day before the conference you can join us for a full day tour and visit leading local design companies.
Spread the love!
Did you know most people will never here about Dare Festival? That is crazy right? So we need your help to make a positive impact on the world. You can like or share this article but most of all you can help us out by joining Dare Festival on Facebook and don’t forget to invite your friends.
What do you think?
I’m also interested in what you think. If you’re a designer, how are you building your skill set? How is design viewed within your organization? What’s your take on these new connected devices? If you’re in a large organization or startup, how are you leveraging design? If you’re involved in education and training, how is your curriculum changing to address the growing demand for designers?
In the coming months I’ll be digging deeper into these topics and will host several online discussions on Slack. You can sign up here to get notified about the dates. Or just send us your challenge or questions using the #DareFest hashtag or on our Facebook page.
