Short, Shorter, Medium?

I write short stuff — little pieces called Flash Fiction, Micro-fiction and the ever so popular Haiku. Sometimes I publish them on my blog, other times here on Medium.

While I appreciate the intend of welcoming short content, I question the thought process and execution. Did I really feel like my short posts were not welcome here? Did they feel any different or less valued than some of the longer pieces I have read on this platform? The answer is no.

Therefore adding a “write box” in order to attract more short compositions, was in my opinion not necessary. Instead it will invite people to write and post — as many other Medium writers mentioned — without proofreading or without the consideration of the reason behind this platforms appeal, which is high quality, well thought out content.

I did not need additional encouragement to share my thoughts, quickly or otherwise. I will do that no matter if there is a “write box” or not. Let’s just hope this new change will not backfire on the platform in the long-run
