Leonard Fraser was the first convicted serial killer in Queensland.
He murdered at least three women and one girl and he is suspected of killing at least three other women. He is also estimated to have raped over twenty women and girls.
He became known as the Rockhampton rapist.
A School Girl Is Murdered
On April 22, 1999, Leonard Fraser, 48, followed nine-year-old Keyra Steinhardt as she walked home from school. She was wearing her school uniform. When she reached a street corner, Fraser punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground.
A woman who lived across the street saw the attack. She called her husband and sons who each witnessed parts of the incident.
After knocking the girl down, Fraser got on top of her where she fell and moved up and down, suggesting sexual assault. He then ran to his car while removing his shirt. He returned with his car and placed Steinhardt in the boot before driving away.
Fraser was quickly arrested.
