Prompt #11 — Justice or Revenge
Trinity rubbed her scraped elbows with the tenderness of a meat cleaver, applying pressure to the area with a wad of dry gauze, soaking the oozing blood caused by her fall. As a child of poor parents, Trinity never had the lunch money Sandy demanded, so he raged and punched her daily until the only thing standing was her low self-esteem. It was a power differential that allowed her bully to rise.
But not anymore, Trinity huffed. Sandy had pushed her onto the pavement for the last time. As she reached into the bathroom cabinet for the sharp razor, she let the drenched bandage fall, crimson droplets dripping onto the ceramic floor. Trinity knew the right angle to cut. She had done it many times before. Just deep enough to allow the pain to escape, but never in the direction that threatened to end her life.
As she drew the razor near, a ferocious force pulled her hand away from her wrist. It squeezed her hand so tight that her thumb and pointer finger froze — the blade held stiffly.
The mirror illuminated. As she stared into it, she saw Sandy in a stranded gravel parking lot, on his knees, begging for his life. He spoke to no one visible, but as his pleas intensified, Trinity witnessed his body flinch with every kick to the gut.
