Dark Lore Digest — Prompt# 6 “Before It All Began”
Benny felt like he’d jumped into a swimming pool fully clothed. The “quick-wicking” long-sleeved shirt stuck to his chest like a doused napkin. Sweat ran down his spine and into the crack of his ass, bathing his nuts, making him feel not only uncomfortable but embarrassingly dirty. Once his anxiety kicked in and the sweat bath began, the black denim jeans swallowed up his perspiration like an inverted umbrella. It felt like he had twenty extra pounds on each leg. “Seriously, Benny,” he scolded himself in a harsh whisper, “what in the actual fuck are you doing here? Is she that worth it?”
Rocking and teetering on his heels in a monkey-like amble, he reached the edge of the darkened hallway. All he heard was his heartbeat. He rehashed Angie’s instructions, “At the end of the hall, there’s a narrow door. The keycode is 1212. The painting is the first one on the wall beside the door.”
“Fuck, you’re an idiot, Benny,” he hissed.
Angie’s promise, her sugary words danced in his mind and stirred up the hot coals of his desire, “Get me that painting, Benny, and I’m all yours. Any way you want me. I’ll make your dreams come true — I’ll even buy the ring.”
