Comfrey’s botanical name is Symphytum officinale. Comfrey has been cultivated as a green vegetable and has been used as an herbal medicine for more than 2,000 years.

This European perennial wildflower is a member of the forget-me-not family and is native to Europe, Asia, and Western Siberia. It is now widely naturalized in North America and around the world.

That means that if you look for it, you have a good chance of finding it growing freely at your feet!

Comfrey’s original name, Knitbone, derives from the long history of healing this plant has done in the form of mending together what has been broken apart.

A common way to use Comfrey is the external use of a poultice made of its leaves and/or roots to heal burns, sprains, swelling, broken bones, and bruises.

This plant is known for its ability to heal wounds fast and eliminate scarring. More than external wounds can benefit from Comfrey. Internal wounds and injuries can be healed with the power of Comfrey too!
