Preparing for Killnet’s DDoS Attacks: What Healthcare Organizations Need to Know

The Russian threat actor Killnet has been making headlines recently due to its involvement in a series of high-profile distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against the healthcare industry. Beginning on January 27th, 2023 with a threat to take down the networks of medical institutions in the US, UK, and other nations, Killnet has made good on their promise.

To date, they have claimed responsibility for attacks on dozens of hospital sites and some electronic health records (EHR) systems like MyChart. Although the attacks have been seemingly low impact and easily mitigated, it’s important for healthcare organizations to stay updated on the threat group’s ongoing DDoS activities and be prepared for a potential attack on their company.

Who is Killnet?

Killnet is a cyber-espionage and data-stealing group that is believed to be connected to the Russian government. The group is thought to have been active since at least 2016 and has been linked to operations targeting organizations in the US, Europe, and Asia.
