This Might Probably Be My Last Story For The Year
Getting the chance to freelance the hours away
I’ve never hidden the fact that even before the company I used to work for “retired” me, I was taking on freelance jobs as a side-hustle for extra cash. Before the Great Unpleasantness (getting written off the employment books), I wrote product descriptions for a company on the weekends and sometimes at night after coming home from the J.O.B.
Basically, in those days, I was working seven days a week — five days for the traditional grindstone and two days for the side hustle. Attempting to build a retirement nest egg became a laborious and exhaustive task. Still, I was raking in about five hundred a week with my side hustle alone, so I was not about to walk away from that.
What I did walk away from was Medium. Like many of us writing on this platform, I became disenfranchised after spending years crafting something that resonated with my reading base. The payouts grew smaller and smaller each month until I was getting pennies on anything I wrote.
So, I took an eight-month leave of absence and concentrated on working at the J.O.B. and cultivating work as a freelancer. I was lucky enough (maybe it had something to do with my writing) to establish some…
