Cost: Everything
This statement by Christ has always bothered me due to its extremity.
“If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26)”
Jesus apparently will not tolerate competing loyalties, and demands (how else would you say it?) absolute priority when it comes to establishing direction in my life.
My life.
I guess that’s the problem–the issue here.
Am I willing to sacrifice everything for Christ? To reject all of my cultural/political views for a man claiming to be God in the flesh?
The answer to that question is scary.
But if I am to move from being merely a follower of Christ to an actual disciple, then my loyalties to Christ must outshine my loyalties to my family and friends.
I guess this will be an interesting year for me. :-/
