Impressing God…

Ironic how the qualities I define as impressive (like wealth, strength and wisdom) bore the Almighty.

“Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:23–24)”

God is more concerned about my fellowship with him than any ability that I have or will acquire.

Truthfully God wants me (along with every human being) to pursue wisdom…

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. (Proverbs 4:7)”

…to acquire reasonable financial success…

“A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches. (Proverbs 11:16)”

…and to maintain a healthy body.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Joshua 1:9)”

But my confidence should never rest in these temporal achievements as they are no more promised to me as the next breath or the next sun rise.
