Knowledge of God‽

Read this passage from Apostle Paul in Colossians & these words (emphasized in bold) stood out to me.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (Apostle Paul, Colossians 1:9-10)

Knowing (or rather understanding) God’s will seems to be a critical component of discipleship, one that I (begrudgingly) overlook daily as I try to anticipate what today’s challenges will bring.

But understanding God requires more than my meager mind or reading a multitude of books.

I need to gain spiritual insight regarding the Almighty as well, which means I need to:

  • Communicate with God more (prayer)
  • Integrate— not just read — God’s words into the fabric of my life (meditation)
  • Discern what direction the Divine is advising for my life & adjust accordingly (faith)

Gaining greater enlightenment about Christ is not something that can be done instantaneously, but it is acquired over time (just like any skill or deep concept).

But just like exercising my physical muscles, I need to continue to workout my spiritual muscles lest they waste away due to atrophy.
