Reality Bites
Awhile back I heard (and then purchased) Lauryn Hill upon an album titled MTV Unplugged.
Instead of strumming the guitar and playing music about relationships, sex, ambiguous phrases and drugs, she sang about Christ (to the shock of all in the room).
During her performance (between songs) she said:
“Fantasy is what people want, but reality is what they need.”
Here is the fantasy: I am prepared for whatever financial, spiritual, technological or political calamity comes my way; and if not then I can contact experts who will show the way.
Here is the reality: I am absolutely terrified about a future which neither I or the experts have survived (let alone thrived in).
Confessing the truth is…scary…but at the same time relieving as it means I am not as strong as I portray myself to be.
It also means that I still have a lot of work to do before I am ready to embrace the destiny God has for my life (whatever that might be).
