The Good Lie

If there is one thing I find vexing about God, Christ, and his disciples revered as super saints it is this: the standard for what is good.

The ends do not justify the means in God’s book, and despite my (I speak as a fool) wisdom, I can not justify propagating this lie before the Almighty.

A lie I truthfully (again I say this as a fool) have no problems propagating to the next generation.

What lie is this I speak of?

The lie that Santa Claus is a fat man in a red suit who brings every boy and girl a present if they are good or cold coal if they are bad.

But what is wrong with promoting this lie?

After all this tradition (this very custom!) is apart of the fabric of Christmas!

Besides it is apart of my culture, just like apple pie and fire works on the Fourth of July.

But then again he reminds me:

“For the customs of the people are vain…”

Jeremiah 10:3a

And again:

“For we can do nothing against the truth but for the truth.”

2 Corinthians 13:8

No matter how I justify retelling this lie the ultimate question that pops in my head is: “Would Christ tell a child a lie for the sake of conforming to the culture?”

My only answer to that question is: “No.”

“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:16
