Darrin’s Surf Logs…and Other Things

Location: Dockweiler State Beach, Los Angeles, CA

Time: Morning ( 7:15–9:00am-ish)

Conditions: 3–4'+ WNW swell, super high tide early AM draining through morning, offshore winds

Equipment: 5'10" Al Merrick Pod

Company: Cherilyn, Joy

While definitely an improvement over the surf conditions yesterday, it was one of those sessions that was frustrating for me not because there weren’t any makeable waves to be had — I saw some better surfers getting quite a few — but because I wasn’t having success. Yes, any of the waves were jacking up quickly before breaking on the inner sandbar, and the morning sun and offshore sea spray were partially blinding me as I tried to paddle into a couple, but this is one of those times where I feel like I should be a better surfer than I am based on all of the experience I’ve put in. Both Cherilyn and Joy caught quite a few more waves than I did. I only got one successful ride which was actually not too bad, but still. It’s like, come on!

In any case, it was nevertheless a nice day to be on the water. Cherilyn and I walked down the beach and back afterwards wishfully hoping to catch another glimpse of a whale ( or at least a sea lion or dolphin) but none were ti be seen today.
