giver of an auspicious target — lakshya, a goal.

laksh (लक्ष्) is the root word meaning to aim, to target, to direct towards, to know, to notice, to indicate, to perceive, to observe, to view, to understand….

lakshya is the goal, purpose, target.

lakshmaNa means the one who has auspicious sign, mark of an achiever.

lakshmi is the goddess controlling and bestowing auspiciousness. There are various forms of wealth; some lead to progress towards final goal of liberation and some lead to regression towards bondage. A popular vedic hymn invokes goddess lakshmi is “SrI sUktam” says:

siddha lakshmi: mOksh lakshmi: jaya lakshmi: sarasvatI; SrI lakshmi: vara lakshmi: prasannA mama sarvadA!

The lakshmi of result — any action when results in desired outcome brings happiness. This is the first form of lakshmi.

The lakshmi of liberation — any result that leads freedom gives more happiness. This is the second form of lakshmi.

The lakshmi of success — winning in any small competition or test gives happiness. This is third form of lakshmi.

The knowledge — saraswati, learning or the ability to learn and transmit the knowledge to the generations is a superior form of happiness. This is the forth form of lakshmi.

SrI lakshmi — sreyas is ultimate good. SrI is the supreme auspiciousness. Having supreme target of uniting with supreme is SrI. This is the fifth form of lakshmi. (more on sreyas —> https://medium.com/darsana-sastra-vijnana/two-ways-to-approach-life-2b365cc0db10 )

The sixth form that includes all the other types of prosperity is vara lakshmi. Any thing that is deserved by individuals with genuine effort is granted by vara lakshmi. One who performs the duties diligently receives boons from vara lakshmi.

On this day, the second Friday of SrAvaNa month a special pUja is performed to re-establish oneself on the direction of righteous target thereby goddess vara lakshmi bestows boons! Let one and all be drawn towards ultimate good by righteous performance of one’s own duties. That is the lakshya and that is lakshmi.
