You never know what the future holds, so it is always important to be prepared. At Darshana, we bring you the best tips so that you are up to date with what is happening in the labor sector.

Three things to do before you get fired or laid off from work 💡

  1. “Save money for a rainy day”; have a savings account equal to three to six months of expenses: Always have this amount saved to prevent cases like this or emergencies.
  2. Apply to other jobs while you have a job. Even if you are comfortable in your current position, interviewing with other companies gives you experience, connections, and competitive job offers that you can use later to negotiate your current salary.
  3. Document all the workflows and projects you have carried out and leverage your success. This practice will help you stay organized and have actual examples of your challenges and achievements in your portfolio when applying for new jobs.

Four things to do when you’ve already been fired or your hours have been cut 👩 💻

  1. Take a second to check in and reflect on whether you are happy with your line of work. If it makes you happy and you want to keep working on this career. This reflection will clarify which positions to apply for or if you need to make a career switch.
  2. Update your LinkedIn profile, Darshana profile, and CV with your latest career successes and start applying for jobs.
  3. Please write to your family, friends, network, and communities, and tell them you are job hunting. We have a great community where we help you get a job offer, get you free mentoring to update your profile, negotiate your salary, and interview with companies.-> Join our Darshana Community.
  4. Edit your resume and make it relevant to the position you are applying for.

Finally, what to do when you have a job interview:

  1. Find out everything about the company you are applying to and its competitors.
  2. Prepare for your interview using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, and Result). Remember a situation in which you had a challenge, what the task was, what action you took to solve it, and what your results were.
  3. If they ask you how much you rate yourself from 1 to 10, always give yourself a 9 or 10. There is nothing better than being confident.
  4. Use keywords when replying to questions about teamwork: empathy, collaboration, and compassion are necessary.
