On Sunday, September 29, 2019, students affiliated with the Dartmouth Libertarians club held a rally in support of pro-democracy Hong Kong protests that occurred many times this Summer. Rather than the generic protests which typically inhabit the Green, this rally was specifically focused on supporting the immediate passage of the ‘Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act’ currently winding its way through the United States Congress. The bill orders the State Department to impose sanctions on individuals who are responsible for depriving Hong Kongers of human rights and provides some other small areas of support to the protesters. The rally occurred just prior to the opening of a major Bernie Sanders campaign rally at the BEMA, but was unrelated to Sander’s speech according to the Dartmouth Libertarian leadership.
