The adoption and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to accelerate at an exponential rate in all industries. As referenced in the 2017 Tech Trend Report, AI is nearing completion of the next wave in technological advancement, integrated into everything individuals and organizations do. The biggest disruption for the established Enterprise will be how to significantly increase the speed of their adoption and integration of AI on top of their systems of record.

Last week, the Darvin.ai team visited the Applied Artificial Intelligence Conference (AAIC2017) in San Francisco in a quest to understand the drivers behind the increased interest of AI adoption in industries such as Cybersecurity, Finance, Healthcare, and Transportation & Logistics. I will share what we have learned about applying AI in those industries.

Applied AI Disruptions

Keynote

Artificial Intelligence will be the next biggest wave of disruption, even bigger than invention of computer. Every application will be using it in the next few years or less. We have summarized some of the use cases and trends that are emerging today.

The AI-powered Transportation Renaissance

With ever-growing need to optimize routes, fuel efficiency and traffic, it’s no wonder why the transportation industry is excited about the future of AI.

  • Smarter cars will provide a lot of data that we can use. For example — our cars can upload data to a platform such as Waze instead of relying on our mobile phones to gather traffic information. Waze is a community-based traffic awareness app that is heavily reliant on crowd-sourced traffic reports
  • Expect more collaboration between vehicles on the road - either centralized or distributed.
  • Self-driving cars alone would reduce accidents by 70%, improve fuel-efficiency by 20%, and save about 1.2 billion hours of pure driving time over a period of ten years —You can read more on How automated delivery vehicles will transform your city?

Cybersecurity: A battleground between Artificial and Human Intelligence

We will witness more and more battles between white and black hat hackers. The white hats will use AI to prevent attacks of black hats who are also using AI. Many organizations realized that we will need to create a common place to share information how to prevent the Enterprise from such the attacks. This is where the majority of the spend and investment in the area is today.

Quantum AI: The Next Frontier

Currently in order to use Quantum computing you will need to spend a lot of money to buy expensive hardware that can’t be fully utilized. Quantum cloud services are coming in the next few years to resolve this problem. But the adoption of Quantum computing is still in its infancy among Enterprises.

Summary

Artificial Intelligence is going to disrupt every business sector, staring from Finance, Banking, Transportation and Logistics, Healthcare and Cybersecurity. The question isn’t if you are going to apply AI in your own organization, but when.
