2022 Darwinia: Don’t Miss The Best Moments!
--
As the crypto industry enters a downturn, the Darwinia community is focused on building a light client-based, universal cross-chain messaging network to enhance interoperability among multi-chains and ecosystems, thereby promoting the construction of hybrid cross-chain and cross-ecosystem networks. A heartfelt thank you to all the developers, researchers, contributors, community members, and everyone else who have played a vital role in driving the growth of Darwinia in 2022. As we approach 2023, let’s take a look back at some of the milestone achievements in Darwinia in 2022!
👨💻 Protocol Progress
🧰 Light Client-Based Cross-Chain Messaging Protocol
Milestone Achievements
- Bridged the
Darwinia 1.0
and theEthereum
via LCMP. - Bridged the
Darwinia 1.0
with theCrab 1.0
using LCMP. - Introduced LCMP-XCMP Router, implementing cross-chain messaging between
Other Parachains
andDarwinia 1.0
.
As evidenced by the milestones achieved, Darwinia Light Client-Based Cross-Chain Messaging Protocol(LCMP) has the ability to successfully bridge cross-chain messages between substrate-based chains and even between substrate-based chains and EVM chains. This indicates that in 2023, we will be able to use LCMP to bring interoperability to more chains and ecosystems. Additionally, LCMP is designed to be a general-purpose protocol, meaning Darwinia made no assumptions about the application layer. The application layer can implement any cross-chain Dapp, which will also bring explosive and interesting use cases to multiple ecosystems.

🛠️ Messaging SDK
The Darwinia Messaging SDK is a powerful tool for developers looking to create decentralized cross-chain applications. This solidity library simplifies the technical complexities of LCMP and other cross-chain protocols, allowing developers to easily integrate the specific capabilities they need from different blockchains. With the abstractions provided by the SDK, developers can focus on building their applications without worrying about the technical details of cross-chain messaging.
Exciting progress was made in the SDK in 2022, and we’re excited to announce our roadmap for 2023 and beyond, outlining a thrilling path for future development.
🏦 Darwinia Cross-Chain Fee Market System
The Darwinia Cross-Chain Fee Market System is a revolutionary solution for the cross-chain fee system on Dotsama. At the Polkadot Decoded 2022 event, the Darwinia team delivered a keynote speech on this innovative system. The Darwinia Fee Market System is a market-based cross-chain infrastructure that provides financial incentives for individuals or entities, known as relayers, who facilitate communication across different blockchain networks. Through a profitability mechanism, the system encourages active participation and efficient message delivery from relayers, ultimately strengthening and sustaining the cross-chain transaction system.
In the last 12 months, significant advancements were made at the protocol level:
- Revise the fee market rewards strategy as the previous approach had resulted in lazy relays and hindered message delivery. https://github.com/darwinia-network/darwinia-messages-substrate/issues/168 fixed it at https://github.com/darwinia-network/darwinia-messages-substrate/pull/178
- Unify the terminology and enhance the quality of the implementation documents. https://github.com/darwinia-network/darwinia-messages-substrate/pull/178 & https://github.com/darwinia-network/darwinia-messages-substrate/pull/192 & https://github.com/darwinia-network/bridger/pull/519
- Enhance the strategy for relaying bridge fee market messages by only transmitting them when the order is within the designated slot for the assigned relayer. https://github.com/darwinia-network/bridger/pull/559

🎯 Looking Ahead
💥 Darwinia 2.0 Merge And Promote Cross-Chain Interoperability
In order to make the Darwinia protocol more concise and easy to understand, while also enhancing scalability, after consulting with the community, the Darwinia Dev Team has decided to merge the Darwinia Chain
and Darwinia Parachain
. Along with the integration of XCM, and the upcoming Darwinia 2.0 merge, Darwinia will facilitate cross-chain messaging between Polkadot Parachains and Ethereum, as well as other blockchain ecosystems, bringing some interesting use cases for multi-ecosystems!
💪💪 Looking to the future, Darwinia will continue to serve as a cross-chain messaging infrastructure, providing support for multi-chain and multi-ecosystem cross-chain interoperability. At the same time, it will also explore the development of the Darwinia ecosystem in a more decentralized manner.

Darwinia is a cross-chain messaging infrastructure, which provides a light client-based, programmable, universal cross-chain messaging network for decentralized applications. Now, we’ve successfully used Darwinia’s light-client cross-chain messaging protocol(LCMP) to bridge cross-chain messages between substrate-based chains, and even between substrate-based chains and EVM chains, meanwhile, Darwinia provides developers with an SDK, so they can easily integrate cross-chain capabilities into their Dapps. This has significant implications for cross-chain interoperability and will enable the creation of a hybrid cross-chain network through Darwinia’s role as a cross-chain messaging infrastructure.
