Ziyi and Jia Huan moved to Hong Kong from Singapore one year ago. They are both working for universities in researching Methods in Ecology & Marine Science. We visited them during the weekend at Dash Coliving to get to know about their life in Hong Kong.

Why did you choose to do research in Hong Kong?
J: A professor who is well-known in my study area is now in HKU and it’s always inspired me to work with this kind of person. At the same time, Ziyi also got an opportunity to work here from another boss after I took the offer.

What is the difference between working here and Singapore?
Z + J: It wasn’t so much different as the science industry is quite similar to everywhere. Our colleagues here are very friendly to us and it makes it very easy to get along with the place.

What’s your favorite way to relax after work and on weekends?
Z + J: We like to go to the cinema and do some shopping in the mall during the weekend. We are also interested in exploring small shops, old stores, vintage places sometimes.

Where’s your favourite spot to eat around?
We enjoy Asian desert alot and here’re two we always visit just downstair of Coliving:

  • Happy Together — Fusion dessert with mango, mochi & a scoop of ice cream
  • T-Fresh — The best for Taiwanese dessert

Speaking of the love for dessert, we always want to try the dessert in Yuen Long as everyone said it’s so good tho!

Their favorite dessert from T-Fresh (黃金地瓜泥手工芋圓)

How do you usually explore new restaurants in Hong Kong?
Z + J: We usually use Openrice to search for food places when we feel adventurous on that day as searching for new food is difficult for us as a lot of restaurants are not on the ground floor and we are not familiar with Hong Kong. This website helps us to know the menu, food type and price before visiting the restaurant.

What is the difference in Dash Coliving compared with your previous coliving experience?
Z + J: We feel more productive either working in the room or in common areas as there is more space for us compared with our previous coliving experience. We also met more tenants here because of the events and more people staying here.

More space to hangout even for breakfast.

If you could have any superpowers, what would you pick?
Z: I would like to talk to animals because they are so cute and Jia Huan would like to speak any language in the world so that he could communicate with any local people around the world.
