Here Are the Fashion Trends You Should add to Your Holiday Wishlist
Using data analytics to optimise your holiday fashion wishlist. You’re welcome.
The biggest fashion event of the year is upon us: holiday shopping.
Despite unprecedented inflation, apparel holiday shopping in 2022 is still projected to grow by 5% year-over-year. Additionally, ~70% of consumers are expecting to spend more on apparel or luxury goods this year. So, cracking the fashion holiday wishlist is a must: what’s in versus what’s out this season? What should you buy, and why?
Luckily for you, I spend the better half of my time applying data and analytics to fashion. Specifically, using something objective (numbers; data) to make sense of an incredibly subjective matter (fashion).
Based on my findings, here are the 4 fashion trends you should add to your holiday wishlist, with the data to back it up.
Wool scarves
Specifically, oversized, plaid-patterned wool scarves popularized à la Acne Studios. According to Google Search data, the Acne Studios scarf has grown 70% in popularity since September, and 50% from this time last year (2021).
Platform Mini Ugg’s
Perhaps one of the most viral TikTok fashion trends of the season, Ugg’s new ultra-mini platform model made headlines for its chic spin on a classic favorite. The Supermodel-approved shoe has grown 1,001% in popularity since its launch, with shade “chestnut” reigning as the most popular shade (according to Google Search data).
Classic, statement boots
Earlier this year, I launched DataButMakeitFashion.com: a site letting you shop a variety of different fashion trends aggregated from analysing runway collections. Using Google Analytics, I can track everything my visitors are interested in, or, clicking on.
Since September, week-after-week, the most clicked on item has remained consistent: a pair of black leather, knee-high, Vince Camuto boots. Maybe classic black boots are simply a fall fashion staple. Or, maybe they’re a hot trend you should jump on before the weather heats up and flip flop season returns.
Ballet flats
Whether you love or hate them, there’s no denying: ballet flats are back. With Miu Miu’s Fall 2022 collection leading the way (60%+ of models wore the brand’s satin ballet flats), this simple, classic shoe skyrocketed back into the fashion-sphere this season.
Despite Gen-Z groans and complaints, interest in ballet flats rose 70%+ in popularity in September, and the product has consistently remained one of the top 5 items on DataButMakeitFashion.com. Say what you want, but data tells me you all secretly love ballet flats.
