Data…We talked about it, we looked at it, but What is it?

Data is everywhere, it's all around us. It can be numbers, text, images, sound, or any other type of input that can be stored and processed. So…What is it? Data is collective observations about something. These observations serve as the basis for generating insights and making informed decisions.

Two fundamental categories for classifying data

Continuous:

it can take on any value within a range. Let’s imagine you have a ruler. You can measure things like the length of a pencil, the height of a book, or the distance between two points — Continuous data is like that ruler. There are many possible values between any two points.

Categorical:

Sorting things into groups. Let’s say we have a bunch of apples, having different colored and then putting them into separate bucket. Each Apples is in a specific category, and they can’t be divided further. Colors are categorical. An Apples can be red, or green. There’s no “in-between” color like “greenred” — it’s one or the other.

Conclusion

Data isn’t just numbers. It can help us understanding the relationship of events, Data serves as a time machine, allowing us to revisit and dissect events, uncovering the hidden connections and patterns. It can help us predicting future, imagine having a reliable crystal ball that offers insights into what’s to come. Data, when analyzed correctly, provides just that.
